Making Health Care Clinics More Comfortable For Your Kids

A few months ago, I started thinking about the fact that I hadn't taken my kids to the doctor in a long time. I realized that I was late on a few of my son's checkups, so I made him an appointment with our family doctor. Unfortunately, since my son didn't know the doctor, he was pretty uncomfortable during the appointment. I had to figure out how to make my son comfortable and happy during the visit, which was a real challenge. This blog is all about making health care clinics as comfortable and happy as possible. If you feel dizzy a lot during the day, you may have vertigo in your ear. Below are some other symptoms you may experience if you have this, types of vertigo, and information about vertigo rehabilitation therapy as treatment.

Vertigo Symptoms

Besides being dizzy, you may also feel nauseous and vomit. You will likely feel off balance while you are walking. This can be dangerous as you could easily fall especially if walking on uneven ground, going down steps, or going up steps. You may have tinnitus, which is hearing sounds that no one else near you can hear. Some sounds you may hear in your ears are buzzing, ringing, hissing, roaring, whistling, or whizzing.

You may experience headaches if you have vertigo, as well as feel pain in the affected ear. Your ear may feel like it is full of fluid, and you will have motion sickness when riding in a vehicle.

Types of Vertigo

One type of vertigo is peripheral vertigo. Some medications may cause this, such as diuretics, antibiotics, or salicylates. You should ask your doctor if what you are taking can cause vertigo symptoms. Peripheral vertigo can also be caused by a head injury, inflammation of a nerve in your ear, or you may have pressure on a nerve, which can be caused by a tumor. You may have irritation or an infection in the inner ear along with swelling.

There is also central vertigo, which is not as common as peripheral. This is because central vertigo means you are having a problem in your brain. This may be having broken blood vessels in your brain, or if you have multiple sclerosis. Some seizures may cause vertigo or if you have had a stroke this can cause this problem in your ear.

Vertigo Rehabilitation Therapy

One treatment the doctor may suggest is vertigo rehabilitation therapy. This is a type of physical therapy that uses special exercises that can help with gait and gaze stabilization. The physical therapist will teach you different head movements as this is important in retraining and stimulating your vestibular system.

During your first visit with the physical therapist, they will do a balance assessment and check your mobility and general stability. They will also give you an inner ear examination. Once they finish, they will come up with a personal treatment plan catered for the type of vertigo you have. Your doctor may have you go to the physical therapist a couple of times per week for a few weeks. The therapist will also teach you exercises that you can do at home to continue with the treatment.

Your doctor can give you much more information about vertigo and vertigo rehabilitation therapy.
