If you are a person that finds yourself frequently touching your eyes, you might find yourself frequently getting eye infections or getting particles of dust in your eyes. Touching your eyes is a great way to spread disease to yourself and others. However, if it is a habit, you might find it difficult to stop touching your eyes no matter how bad you know it is for you to do. Here are some tips for breaking the habit of touching your eyes so that you can keep them happy and healthy.

1. Wear Makeup

If you live in a culture or society where it is acceptable or normal for you to wear makeup, definitely do it. The first thing that you need to do is get started by buying some cheaper eye makeup. Mascara, eye liner, or eye shadow will work perfectly. You don't want it to be too expensive because the expensive ones will not smear as much. Then, apply it to your eyes in the manner that you find the most appealing and flattering. If you don't know how to apply makeup, you can watch makeup tutorials on the Internet or you can go to a makeup store or a department store and have someone show you how to put makeup on. Now that there is makeup on and around your eyes, you will be reminded every time that you touch your eyes.

Every time you touch your eyes, you risk messing up your makeup and looking foolish. Mark down how many times you rub your eyes and they come away colored with makeup. Set a goal for number of times that you touch your eyes in a week. If you are under your desired goal, put five dollars in a jar towards buying some high end, designer makeup that professionals use. This will help keep you motivated and remind you to not touch your eyes.

2. Enlist the Help of a Friend

If you find that you cannot wear makeup due to a skin condition or because you don't think that it would be culturally acceptable, then enlist the help of a friend to remind you that you are touching your eyes and to pull your hand away when you do it. This will help keep you accountable and make it easier for you to break the habit.
